Drug Uses
Zestril is used to treat high blood pressure. Used in combination with other medications, Zestril is also used to increase the chances of survival following a heart attack or heart failure.
How Taken
Adults will begin with a low dose to be increased gradually by your doctor. Once this occurs, Zestril should be taken once a day. Zestril should be taken at the same time every day.
Warnings/Precautions
Zestril is an ACE inhibitor and may interact with other medications that you are taking. Make sure to tell your doctor about all medications, over the counter and prescription that you are taking. Do not drive or perform hazardous tasks until it is determined how the drug will affect you.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include cough, dizziness, headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, runny nose or sneezing, excessive fatigue, rash or a decrease in sexual ability. More serious side effects such as hoarseness, chest pain, fainting, lightheadedness, fever, sore throat, chills and yellowing of the skin or eye, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, tongue, eyes, hands feet, ankles, lower legs or tongue should be reported to your doctor and medical treatment sought immediately.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Overdose
Indications that an overdose has occurred may include fainting or lightheadedness. If you believe you have taken on overdose, seek medical treatment right away.
More Information
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant. If you are allergic to Monopril, Capoten, Mavik, Altace, Accupril or Vasotec, alert your doctor and discuss the available options for treatment. Blood pressure and blood tests should be done routinely while taking Zestril. Alert your doctor if you experience any of the side effects above as he may choose to adjust your dose.
