Oedema
Excessive accumulation of fluid in the body tissues. The resultant swelling may be local, as occurs after injury or with inflammation, or it may be more general, as in heart failure. In generalized oedema there may be accumulation of fluid within the chest cavity (pleural effusion) or abdomen (ascites). Oedema can also occur within the spaces of the lungs (pulmonary oedema).
