Drug Uses
Sandimmune is used to slow down or reduce the natural tendency of the immune system to reject organ transplants.
How Taken
Adults should take 5 to 10 mg per 2.2 pounds of body weight daily. It may be decreased by the doctor to 2 to 6mg per day. Doses are usually adjusted according to drug levels in the blood.
Precautions
Sandimmune must be adjusted for a possible decline in kidney function in older patients. Do not drive or engage in hazardous work until you determine how the medicine affects you.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember up to 12 hours late. However, if more than 12 hours late, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Frequent urge to urinate; fever or chills; yellow-tinged eyes and skin caused by liver problems; abnormal bleeding; fatigue and high blood pressure are considered serious side effects and must be reported to your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Overdose
Yellowish tinge to skin or eyes, lethargy, confusion, swelling of body tissues are all indicators of an overdose. Seek medical treatment immediately.
More Information
Caution is advised when taking Sandimmune. Consult your doctor if you have any of the following: chicken pox, shingles, high blood pressure, infection, a chronic gastrointestinal disorder, or a blood cell disorder.
