Drug Uses
Retrovir is sued to treat HIV infection in combination with other medications and to
prevent passage of the virus from pregnant women to the fetus.
How Taken
Adults should take 0.9mg per pound of body weight injected slowly into a vein every four hours, up to six times per day.
Warnings&Precautions
Patients using Retrovir over an extended period of time should be monitored. While Retrovir does not cure HIV, you should take appropriate preventive measures while engaging in sexual activity.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Anemia causing paleness, fatigue, or shortness of breath, fever and insomnia are considered serious side effects. If such symptoms occur, call your doctor right away. Headaches, nausea, muscle aches, mood swings and loss of appetite are common side effects and must be tolerated.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Overdose
Sudden nausea and vomiting, headache dizziness, or drowsiness indicates an overdose. Seek medical treatment immediately.
