Drug Uses
Pyridium is used for short-term relief of symptoms caused by irritation of the urinary
tract such as burning, pain, and discomfort during urination as well as an increase
urges to urinate with only small amount of urine passing.
How Taken
Adults should take 200mg three times a day.
Precautions
Pyridium is intended only for short term use. This mediation is best taken with or after meals to minimize stomach upset. Some drugs may interact with Pyridium. Consult your doctor for specific advice if you are taking any over-the-counter or prescription medications.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare. Call your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, fingers, feet or lower legs. Blue or purple-blue skin color, unusual fatigue, fever, confusion, sudden decrease in urine output, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, skin rash, yellow discoloration of the eyes or skin or unusual weight gain.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Overdose
While an overdose is unlikely, call you doctor immediately if you experience fatigue, paleness, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, bloody or cloudy urine, decreased urine output, swelling of the ankles and calves, lower back or flank pain, nausea or vomiting as these may indicate on overdose.
More Information
Pyridium causes the urine to turn reddish orange. This is harmless, but it might stain your clothes. It may also cause permanent staining or discoloration of contact lenses.
